Sustainability Centre
Where community and sustainability meet
The Sustainability Centre is a welcoming hub for connection, learning, and positive change, where people come together to share ideas, build community, and take meaningful action towards a healthier, more sustainable future

Where to finds us
Come visit us from Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm at 1A Mako Street.

What we do
We support practical sustainability through our shop, workshops, Bike Hub, community pantry and weekly Kai Conscious Café. We’re also proud to provide a welcoming, affordable space for community groups and organisations to gather, learn, and grow together.

How we operate
We work collaboratively with community groups, local businesses and volunteers to keep the Centre thriving as a practical, welcoming space. Every activity, from running workshops to hosting events, is guided by our commitment to kaitiakitanga | caring for people and the environment
Waiheke Sustainability Centre at a glance
We can assist with event planning and are happy to liaise with our trusted partners to build a bespoke conference package that includes transport, catering, and a range of fun experiences as needed.
Our space
Zero Waste
We seek to empower communities to be more sustainable, and this extends to hiring out our Sustainability Centre. We ask that you use our whiteware and zero waste station rather than bringing in single-use. Any food scraps will be composted onsite.
Shared space
The Centre is actively used by WRT staff as well as our refillery customers 9-5pm on weekdays. If you require more privacy, let us know and we will be happy to find a solution which ensures minimal disruption of your booking.
Kai Conscious Café
Please note that every Friday we host a community lunch made out of kai that we rescue and cook up on site. We therefore can’t take bookings Friday 10-5pm.
Our Solar Journey

How we did it?
WRT’s solar journey started with a French electrical engineering intern Solene who did a study of our energy use and recommended we ‘go solar’. At WRT we know how to party so we turned our Chairman’s birthday into an international event with scripted videos, a live stream, fabulous food, music and a very special brew. Great volunteers, generous friends and our partners at Clean Stream Waiheke Ltd partied hearty and together we raised enough for a solar system.
A total of $5,000 was raised which Clean Stream Waiheke Ltd matched, giving a grand total of $10,000 to go towards funding solar panels.
in 2025 – 2026, We had a major update!
